We are looking for travel stories from travellers and story-tellers. Our interest is in one aspect of a destination you travelled to from which you can extract a narrative. Your write-up should have a literary approach.
The story should outline your personal connection to the land which you travelled to. Maybe you felt a connection through love, knowledge, fear, historical pain, discovery, adventure, culture, family/heritage, or even something inexplicable which transformed you.
Your story should not simply offer information about the destination, there is plenty of that online. Rather, we are looking for stories which help you come to a particular realization about yourself or your place in the world, thereby transforming your way of thinking through travelling.
We also welcome travel poetry!
Your stories/poems will be posted in the Feature section of our blog. We will post what we feel are truly inspiring and grounded moments. In the meantime, do not hesitate to pack your bags!
Guidelines:
In order to be considered, provide a short writing sample, and an outline of your travel story. The outline should include:
- A title and a 200-word paragraph from the travel story.
- Why you felt a connection to the region or what about this travel experience transformed you.
- A short bio of yourself – professional experience or general writing experience. Also, provide links to your webpage/blog/social media if you have any.
- Submit your outlines to submissionbeyondhere@gmail.com.
- Attach outlines only in PDF or .doc format with the subject line BEYOND HERE STORY. Please do not submit stories in the body of the email.
The final story should be between 1000 – 1500 words (unless it’s poetry). It also must include high-resolution photos.
We thank everyone who is courageous enough to share their stories.
*Due to our newly-created existence, for now we can only provide a small compensation for your written story.
